CCOA Key Accomplishments
Guided by the strategic plan, the College of Chiropractors of Alberta has accomplished a great deal since its inception on December 1, 2021.
2021–2022
- Separated College and Association functions as mandated by Bill 46.
- Revised regulatory framework to align with Health Professions Act amendments.
- Conducted member consultations on Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.
- Approved revised Bylaws and Governance Manual.
- Implemented competency-based Council process.
- Developed formal Council orientation program.
2022–2023
- Launched the 2022-2027 Strategic Plan.
- Updated multiple Standards of Practice (e.g., Use of Title, Continuing Competence, FGM prevention).
- Adopted values-based and right-touch regulation principles.
- Established the council appointment process.
- Amended Continuing Competence Program.
- Launched omnibus public survey.
- Implemented new HR information system.
2023–2024
- Surveyed registrants on continuing competence program.
- Developed career-span competencies and updated reserve policies.
- Added discipline decision summaries to public permit verification.
- Managed high volume of complex complaints (including sexual abuse/misconduct).
- Strengthened collaboration through ARFHP and FCC participation.
- Added Conduct Resolution Officer; restructured staff.
- Completed external compensation review and adopted organizational risk register.
2024–2025
- Managed high volume of complex complaints (including sexual abuse/misconduct).
- Advanced Standards of Practice review with consultations and research.
- Presented joint research at WFC Biennial Congress in Copenhagen.
- Shifted to annual Basic Life Support training for patient safety.
- Shared ethical decision-making scenarios with regulated chiropractors.
- Refined preceptorship program and developed core competencies.
- Delivered webinar on maintaining public trust through professional communications.
- Supported FCC Indigenous Framework.
- Digitized records, transitioned practice visit submissions online and optimized iMIS content management and HUMI (HR) systems.
- Expanded staff training on equity, inclusion and diversity.
- Added a Regulation & Policy Advisor and second Conduct Resolution Officer.
