Dear Colleagues,
Effective March 26, 2020, chiropractors who have been authorized by the Registrar to provide temporary Telehealth services are permitted to bill for these services as outlined in the revised temporary permission page on the ACAC website.
Thank you to the Canadian Chiropractic Protective Associations’ (CCPA) quick and adaptive response in providing Personal Liability Protection (PLP) as part of Telehealth practice in Alberta. Applicants who use providers other than the CCPA will have to provide proof of Telehealth coverage in their PLP policy at the time of application.
As part of billing for Telehealth, chiropractors are required to adhere to the following fee and billing practises:
- Patients must be informed of the services that are eligible for Telehealth.
- Patients must be informed in advance of the Telehealth consultation of the fee and the service they will receive as part of the Telehealth consultation.
- Patients are provided a receipt that shows the service occurred via Telehealth consultation.
We will share recommended billing guidelines soon.
Council has also extended the temporary Telehealth permission termination date to June 30, 2020. If you have already applied for the temporary Telehealth permission and received authorization from the Registrar, no action is required and you are permitted to practise until June 30, 2020. If you have not applied for the temporary Telehealth permission, you are not permitted to practise Telehealth until you receive authorization from the Registrar.
As COVID-19 has created a highly fluid situation and its direction can change quickly, the ACAC reminds practitioners who are practising temporary Telehealth to closely read all ACAC communications regarding Telehealth. You can find all ACAC communications related to COVID-19 on the ACAC website.
Regards,
